Whatever their reasons for finding a favorite Disney Princess, it is important to expose girls a variety of characters and personalities to aspire to be. I see that in my spunky girl who has always wanted to be a big kid and do big things like her big sister. Both princesses are full of spunk, and while they love their animal friends, they dream of bigger things. When asked why they are her favorites she tells people, “Because they are brave and kind.” But I think it is more than that, I think she relates to the characters. Whenever anyone asks it is always Ariel and Jasmine, never just one or the other. Each of my girls choose a favorite when they were quite small, and as they have gotten bigger they have developed different reasons for loving their favorite princess.įor Sissy her favorite Disney Princesses have always been Ariel and Jasmine. I am always fascinated by how children gravitate toward different stories and characters.
There is a story and a heroine for every girl. That is the beauty of Disney’s princess stories. So it was a special treat to be invited to Disney to learn about Disney’s Dream Big, Princess initiative and spend the day pampering my middle princess. With three kids, it is rare to spend a day one on one with one of the big girls.
As a mother of girls, I am all for Disney’s Dream Big, Princess campaign and its message of empowering girls to do and be anything they want to. They have big dreams for themselves, and I have even bigger dreams for them. Currently, the oldest wants to be a fashion designer, the middle a zoo keeper and the youngest (only one) is just happy to do anything her big sisters are doing. Our princesses are smart, kind, brave, witty and they will move mountains.
